13x4 vs 13x6 Lace Front Wigs: Which Size Should You Buy?
13x4 vs 13x6 is the lace-size choice that shows up on almost every lace front listing. The hair can look the same in photos. The lace depth is what changes parting room, airflow, and often the price.
This guide explains what the numbers mean, how the two sizes compare, and which one fits how you actually style. US orders at Katertomyman get Free Shipping, first. We ship to US addresses only.

What the numbers mean
Lace front sizes are written as width x depth in inches:
- 13 = ear-to-ear width along the hairline (about 13 inches)
- 4 or 6 = how far the lace runs back from the hairline toward the crown
So a 13x4 gives you 13 inches across and 4 inches of lace depth. A 13x6 keeps the same 13-inch hairline width but adds 2 more inches toward the crown (UNice: 13x4 vs 13x6).
That extra depth is the whole decision. Hair quality, density, and texture are separate choices. Pair this size guide with our HD lace explained and wig density chart when you shop.
13x4 vs 13x6 at a glance
| 13x4 | 13x6 | |
|---|---|---|
| Lace size | 13" wide × 4" deep | 13" wide × 6" deep |
| Parting space | Classic middle / side parts across the front | Deeper parts toward the crown |
| Styling | Everyday parts, lower lace bulk | Deep parts, half-up, more scalp show |
| Cap feel | Often lightest everyday option | Slightly more lace; more parting room and airflow on top |
| Price | Usually lower | Usually higher for the extra lace |
| Best for | Budget, simple parts, first lace front | Versatile parting, summer deep parts, half-up looks |
Kendra's Boutique and other size guides make the same point: understand depth before you buy so you do not pay for lace you never part into, or under-buy depth you need for deep styles (Kendra's Boutique: 13x4 vs 13x6).
What is a 13x4 lace front wig?
A 13x4 lace front covers the full forehead hairline ear to ear, with about four inches of lace running back. Inside that panel you can part left, right, or center for a natural hairline look.
Choose 13x4 when you:
- Wear classic middle or side parts most days
- Want the lighter, more budget-friendly lace panel
- Are new to lace fronts and want a simple install footprint
- Do not need half-up styles that show deep scalp
What is a 13x6 lace front wig?
A 13x6 lace front uses the same ear-to-ear width but extends the lace six inches back. Those two extra inches open deeper parting and more room for styles that show scalp farther toward the crown (UNice).
Choose 13x6 when you:
- Love deep middle parts
- Wear half-up / half-down or combed-back looks
- Want more top-of-head airflow in warm weather
- Style the part in different places week to week
Parting space: the real difference
Both sizes give you a full frontal hairline. The 13x4 parting space stops sooner. A true deep part past mid-head usually needs the extra depth of a 13x6. If your go-to look is a soft side part only, you may never use the back two inches of a 13x6.
Julia Hair describes the same split: the main difference is lace depth at the back of the frontal panel, not a different install method (Julia Hair: 13x4 vs 13x6).
Price, comfort, and install
Price: More lace usually costs more. Pay up only if you will use deep parting.
Comfort: 13x4 often feels lightest. 13x6 can feel slightly more lace on the head, but the deeper panel can also leave more room for scalp airflow, which many wearers prefer in heat (UNice).
Install: Same basic method for both: prep hair, align lace to your hairline, secure, blend. Glueless caps reduce adhesive stress either way. See glueless lace front wigs.
Care: Same wash rules. Protect lace knots, condition ends, air dry on a stand. Full routine: how to wash and care for a human hair wig.
13x4 / 13x6 vs closures and other lace sizes
| Piece | Coverage | Best when |
|---|---|---|
| 4x4 / 5x5 closure | Small crown/part area | Sew-ins with leave-out or fixed part |
| 13x4 frontal | Ear-to-ear, 4" deep | Full hairline, classic parts |
| 13x6 frontal | Ear-to-ear, 6" deep | Full hairline + deep parting |
| 360 lace | Full perimeter | High ponytails, all-around hairline |
Closures are not the same as frontals. If you are still choosing sew-in vs unit, read lace closure vs lace frontal. Some listings sell frontal or closure pieces only (not a full wig), for example straight transparent HD lace frontal & closure.
How to choose in 30 seconds
- Mostly middle or side part, watching budget → 13x4
- Deep parts, half-up, lots of style changes → 13x6
- Hot climate + deep part → 13x6, often in thinner HD lace, moderate density
- First lace front, keep it simple → 13x4 (or glueless 13x4/13x6 if you want less glue)
Many of our units list both 13x4 and 13x6 as options on one product. Pick the lace size on the variant, then match density and texture.
Texture still matters
Lace size does not change wave pattern. Match texture to your look:
FAQ
Can a 13x4 do a deep part?
Not a true deep crown part. It supports parting in the front four inches. Past mid-head, you want 13x6 depth (UNice).
Is 13x6 always better?
No. If you never deep-part, you pay for lace you do not use. 13x4 is enough for many everyday looks.
Is install harder on 13x6?
Same skill level. More lace to melt and blend, so take your time on the part area.
HD lace on 13x4 vs 13x6?
HD is about how thin and clear the lace looks, not the 4 vs 6 depth. You can have HD in either size. See HD lace guide.
Glueless with either size?
Yes. Cap construction and elastic/combs matter as much as lace depth. Glueless lace front guide.
